I love old magazines, Women's magazines, Western~Cowboys & Indian type, Vintage Travel magazines, as well as Craft & Needlework . I am particularly drawn (like a moth to a flame) to mid-1940's to mid 1960's magazines.
I love the graphics, but even more I love seeing that what was popular then is still popular today...just re-designed.
Knitting magazines are a great source for fashion...I am always careful to study what is in the back ground of the picture too! Sometimes, what is in the background can help you "date" something that you have.
I am an avid collector of resin grape clusters....I was not to sure when they were popular but I knew it was around the mid 1960's and sure enough I came across an ad in a late 1960's magazine for resin grape cluster kits.
I also love "Workbasket" craft booklets/magazines....they had a little of everything, sewing, cooking, gardening, re-purposing ideas and in some of the editions 'iron-on transfers' were tucked in as a gift for the reader.
I saw an idea for an apron using a "apron hoop"( a plastic 1/2 circle), just cut a piece of fabric into a rectangle, hem the bottom & both sides, make a wide hem at the top to slide the hoop thru & voila' instant apron. Truth be known, I remember the hoops from High School Home Ec.
Also notice the idea for a 'strawberry garden' using a wine barrel (left open booklet). Talk about container gardening! lol!
Yep, old magazines are a wonderful reference resource....

I found these cool crochet fruit & veggies at a local thrift shop but was not sure what their purpose was so I stuffed them with plastic market bags to fill out their shape...well guess what!?...I found an ad in a 1970 issue of "Workbasket" for purchasing the crochet pattern from "Annies Attic"...and these cute items were/are...Pot Holders! Oh my word! I would never have guessed it. And everyone I asked had no clue as to what they were.
I was so delighted to find this (pictured) stash of magazines at a recent yard sale , all for $2.00...SCORE!
Yep,, one mans trash is another (wo)mans treasures! lol!

Apron Fun

Ok, so I am heading out on another "Glamping" trip in a few days.....I love finding or making little 'gifts' for friends when meeting up with them for our Glamping weekends.I made some pillow cases for some of the gals but for the 'leader' of our cooking team I thought an apron would be appropriate.I was in one of my "Rebellious moods" and did not feel like following an apron pattern so I just started cutting and sewing and this is what I made.
I call it "Cooking Under the Stars".

A Spoiled Kitty

No comments:

Ok, so No we don't live in Beverly Hills where the Rich & Famous push their fur babies around in strollers!
We do however have a very spoiled kitty who thinks she should live a life of the rich & famous & be pushed around from food bowl to litter box! lol!

I have the most wonderful little girls in my life!
Both are very special and we are so blessed to have them in our family...hopefully for ever.
But in the mean time, our daughter has her hands full!
Welcome to "Mommyhood 101"
'Poohbit' came into their (daughter & Son-in-Love) lives when she was 4 days old....itty bitty and not much bigger then a minute!
'LeiLei' came into the fold when she was 6months they are 6 & 9 months old & together are a wonderful handful of joy not to mention stinky diddies! lol!
Hopefully they will be a permanent addition to the family.
It's been such fun watching these to sweet little girls grow....I had forgotten the joys of having a baby to fuss I am experiencing that joy all over again.
Ah babies, sweet babies.

Another Vintage Mixer...

1934 Hamilton Beach mixer with an origonal labled bowl.....SCORE!
Ok, if a couple is good...then 18 is 'gooder'!!! lol!
Yep, this one makes number 18 in my collection of vintgae mixers, starting from 1928 to 1970.

Thanx to the watchful & keen eye of my partner in crime, Rene', she spotted a really cool mixer for me & stood guard over it until I was able to make my way through the crowd and maneuver over to it. Thanx Rene's for "Staring down" the other shoppers who even looked at
it. Now that's friendship! lol!
Anyhow, it is one I do not have and it even had the original instruction book.
I could barely get my wallet out fast enough to pay for it... SCORE!
I was camping with my gal-pals~ "Sisters on the Fly" and on Saturday we converged on the Spokane Fairgrounds for the Farm Chicks Vintage & Antiques Show.
Wowzers! it was beyond crowded....
They had a "Man Cave" ...the wives 'parked' their hubbies in front of the big screen T.V. in comfy chairs and then the wives took off to shop & wipe out the family fortune! lol!
Fortunately I do not have a family fortune to wipe out! lol!
I also scored some yummy 'Lavender Dark Chocolate' from Cowgirl Chocolates....and a way cool (pre-zip code) decals that will be perfect to put on my Scotty trailer cabinets.
I luv shopping and running into friends & neighbors at the show.... "What happens at the Farm Chicks Show...stays at the Farm Chicks show! lol!
