Over the Rainbow Bridge

3 comments:
This is our lil old lady,,,Ms Beasley.
She has been a part of our life for 18 years,,,,,and tho her name is Ms Beasley, we named her that after that goofy "Ms Beasley" doll on the TV show, "Family Affair"...because when Ms Beasley walked into our lives as a stray,,,we thought she was funny looking..so thus the name... but mind you she has been called other things over the years,,,, El Gato, Chicken Hawk(there is a story behind that name involving a piece of chicken and Ms Beasley).... Beas-er-ree.... and on occasion, DARN CAT! which usually meant she was getting under foot while I was trying to make dinner!
Now her journey has come to an end, we let her cross over the "Rainbow Bridge"....today is a very heart breaking day for us but now she is at peace. Her little body was getting frail from age, her spleen and kidney were shutting down,,,it was time for us to let her go,,, so tonight it will be a quiet sad evening,,,,but it was the right thing to do, when the quality of life is no longer there.
We will miss our little chicken hawk, I'll miss her curling up by my legs at bed time, and in the mornings I will miss her standing by my face patting at me as if to say,,,"Are you awake? 'cuz I would like breakfast now".
Good bye and sweet dreams Ms Beasley.... I know Licorice , Puddums and Cissygirl will be waiting for you across the rainbow Bridge, tell them we send our love. We miss you.
Love Katmom & Katdad

Happy Birthday Irmgard...

1 comment:
Happy Birthday to my dearest and life long best friend, Irmgard.

Here she is with her granddaughter, Valerie.
Irmgard and I have been the very best of friends since we were 11 years old.
My mother took my sister and I back to live with my grandfather in Germany in the mid 1960's.
Irmgard's family lived in the same apartment building as my "Opa" and we immediately became the best of friends.
And we continued to remain best friends even after I moved back to the States.
We 'grew up' together through our letters and photographs over the span of 4 decades.
So I am going back to Germany in the Spring to visit Irmgard, it's been 7 years since my last visit there... we are long over due for coffee and chatting at the kitchen table.
Irmgard just celebrated her birthday (we are just 3 months apart in age) so for fun I made matching aprons for her and her granddaughter. I even machine embroidered their names on the aprons...
Irmgard enjoys cooking (much more than I do!) so I know she will enjoy many afternoons in the kitchen with her granddaughter baking all kinds of wonderful goodies and wearing their aprons.
I can hardly wait for Spring to get here,,,,Irmgard and I have 7 years of catching up to do in a 2 week span of time......not to mention shopping and hitting some marvelous bakeries.
And as always we will end the evenings sitting out in the garden or go to a 'Bier Garten" to enjoy a regional glass of wine.....followed by some decadent desserts......
Happy Birthday Irmgard,,, and I will see you soon!

1st Apron for 2011

2 comments:
I just finished up this cute little child's apron this afternoon, it's my 1st apron for 2011.
I used a vibrant Mary Englebright print fabric...and I am now working on an adult one....both are going to a dear friend of mine in Germany for her & her granddaughter.
Is this Wild or What! I spotted this fabric at e-quilters.com
an on-line fabric store....I love their selection of fabrics, and their service is outstanding. I have never been disappointed with them. (neither has Peekie, as you can see.)
just a little close up of the fabric with out the 'kitty hairs'...lol!
I spotted this fabric at e-quilters.com as well....just a simple pre-printed 1/2 apron, to cut out, stitch up and Voila" instant apron!
In the early 1960's women use to cut out jiffy 1/2 circle aprons from 35" light weight fabric, even felt fabric was used and then decorate them with fabric or felt images, kind of like a felt poodle skirt idea.
I couldn't resist these little goodies while shopping at Area 58 in Spokane, a really fun little vintage shop on Monroe street.
I love the white crochet 'pitcher'...I haven't figured out whether you are suppose to put a little pitcher (creamer) in it or just stuff it or what?
I had to buy these 2 patterns,,,yes I have plenty of apron patterns, but oh what the heck, it was on sale...my favorite 4-letter word! lol! (from e-quilters).
The jacket pattern intrigues me...and I have managed to stash some light weight wool that I think would be perfect for this jacket.....which I got through Indygo Junction, another great company to shop from.
So what did you do today, on 1.1.11 (Jan 1 2011)?????
